Shark Valley is an area in the northern region of the Florida Everglades where you can rent bikes and ride a 15 mile loop down a bikepath, hike throughout various trails or take a tram tour. Today we decided to bike. Normally, the place is crawling with gators and other various wildlife. But since it has been raining so much lately, the animals have spread out and we only saw a few little gators, turtles and different birds and fish along the path.
Oh, and bugs. Many, many HUGE swampy bugs. They enjoyed landing on the front of my sunglasses and making me scream like a little girl as I almost crashed my bike...more than once.
All was well until we headed headed back from the observation deck and got caught in a sudden thunderstorm. Nothing like sitting on a old, rickety, rolling lightning rod through the FLAT everglades in the middle of a lightning storm to get you cycling as fast as you can. Especially when you are the tallest thing around for MILES and lightning and thunder are all you can see or hear through a thick blanket of rain.
Ahhh, good times.
Here are a few more pictures from our afternoon in the Everglades...before I had to save the camera from the rain. In the photos taken from the observation deck, you can see what looks like fog rolling in. It's not fog though, it's rain. A lot of it. Coming right at us.

i have been meaning to visit Everglades for a long time now....may be sometime later this year....we may be on our way to key west again in August....guess sometime then if weather allows us to....
